Not much difference

I don't think I can tell any difference between these two, the top is the grayscale version and the second, layers - I'm probably just not doing it right because apart from opening an adjustment layer window, the procedure I carried out was exactly the same as for grayscale.

  1. Tbh I can't see any difference either....but am struggling with this. Not convinced I have done the layers method correctly myself!

  2. Even though there's not much difference, the shot is great and looks really good in B&W. The layers method I used added a gradient map layer and tweaked all the different colours. I got the method from Kelby's book on Photoshop Elements 6. If you want more details, PM me.

  3. Bottom one is more contrasty, but I'm wondering if you did a "normal" B/W conversion and then tweaked the contrast would you get the same result as the second one?

I don't have Photoshop and wouldn't know a layer if it smacked me in the face, so I'm kinda ignoring this bit and hoping it goes away LOL.

BTW - thanks for your nice comments, much appreciated :)

  4. OK this is weird, now I can't see a difference! Maybe it's the angle my screen is at when I'm looking at it or something. Who knows?

  5. There seems to be a tad more contrast in the top one to me. Both nice conversions though. Getting confused with what the layers method is. I grayscale and then tweak the levels is that the same thing?!

  6. Well I'm not sure about the technicalities but the shot looks good in black & white. I think I agree with Zena about the contrast in the top one. Great set of course photos. Hope we meet again soon on another of CJ's courses :-)

  7. i don't understans all the technicalities but it does depend of the type of image & RGB channels which makes some images more pronounced than others - either way good image with nice soft light

  8. Hello I had a good look at the 2 shots above & difference is minimal,I would suggest in making 2 layers, then the second layer try to sharpen it a little and make it overlay, then you will see a sharper difference.
